Frequently Asked Questions

Q.What is the medium of instruction?
A.s English for the first three years. Arabic for the last two. Note that the books and texts for all years are in Arabic. Also, the medium of teacher explanation and commentary shifts increasingly towards Arabic during the second and third years.

Q. How do I register for classes?
A. Click the "Apply Now" tab, fill out the registration form, and select the submit button. This will lead you to a second page where you select your desired course schedule. Once you have done this, the system will take you to the payment section.

Q. Is there anything else I have to do after registering?
A. You will receive a confirmation email from Darul Uloom Online and shortly thereafter will receive your Student Log-In information. Before classes begin you should have acquired the required books.

Q. How do I get the required books for each class?
A. The names of all the books needed for each subject can be viewed on the Curriculum page. You can either purchase the required books and texts from darul-kitab.com or any other bookseller, OR download and print out the free pdf version of each book, available in Student Resources upon enrollment.

Q. How many classes are offered daily?
A. Each year and each timing group has up to 5 classes offered daily.

Q. Do I have to join live classes or can I just watch the recordings?
A. Yes, to qualify to move on to the next level of study with Darul Uloom online you are required to participate actively in classes. The purpose of the recordings is to help you on the rare occasion that you miss a class due to a valid excuse.

Q. What if I miss a class, how can I make-up the material covered in that class?
A. Each class meeting is recorded and posted immediately to the archiving system. You can access recent classe recordings from the your personal page.

Q. How can I ask a question to my instructor?
A. All classes are fully interactive. You can speak at any time. Or you can "virtually" raise your hand by clicking the “Ask a question” tab which will alert the teacher to call on you. Or you can write your question in the chat box.

Q. Will there be assignments for each class?
A. Yes. Your instructors will be assigning homework.

Q. How are exams and tests conducted?
A. All exams and tests will be conducted online.

Q. Can I change my status from a full time student to a part time student, or vice versa, during the semester?
A. Yes. But you only have until the end of the first week of classes to change your academic status by adding or dropping classes.

Q. Can I change from class timing group to another?
A. Yes, but it is expected that students be aligned to a single time group by the end of the first two weeks of classes.

Q. Do I have to finish every year in succession and uninterrupted?
A. Not necessarily. But, you must complete all classes of a complete Alim course year before advancing to the courses of the subsequent year.

Q. Can I register for a semester and skip the following one?
A. Yes, you can skip a semester and register for it when those classes are offered again.

Q. What are the basic system requirements and equipment I need for the virtual classrooms to work properly on my computer?
A. Windows XP, Vista, or Mac. And a headset with earphones and microphone, OR a separate external microphone and a pair of earphones.

Q. How fast should my Internet be?
A. You must have a high speed Internet or broadband connection.

Q. I don't have a credit card. How do I pay for my tuition?
A. The option of a wire transfer is available. Please contact the Darul Uloom Online administration for more information on this method of pay.
